Dr. Robert Hatcher hails from Douglastown, Long Island. He attended Trinity High School in New York City, Williams College and Cornell University Medical School. After completing a pediatric residency at Emory University and Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia, he began a career in public health and family planning. During two years active duty in the U.S. Public Health Service, Dr. Hatcher served as an Epidemic Intelligence Officer with the Centers for Disease Control (CDC). He was assigned to a family planning project in Columbus, Georgia.

Dr. Hatcher returned to Atlanta in 1968 where he served as Director of the Family Planning Program at Grady Memorial Hospital for 27 years. During a short sabbatical, he received his Masters in Public Health from the University of California, Berkeley, in 1973. During his time at Emory University, Dr. Hatcher has been the senior author of 18 editions of CONTRACEPTIVE TECHNOLOGY and 8 editions of the handbook, MANAGING CONTRACEPTION. For 29 years, he has invited a group of college, nursing and medical students to participate in summer internships in family planning and human sexuality at Grady Hospital.

Dr. Hatcher has been a board member of the National Family Planning and Reproductive Health Association, the Center for Population Options and the National Board of the Planned Parenthood Federation of America. He is active in a number of other reproductive health organizations as well. Currently, he is president of the Bridging the Gap Foundation, a nonprofit organization committed to producing high quality educational materials. Dr. Hatcher is also president of Bridging the Gap, Inc., a company which distributes CONTRACEPTIVE TECHNOLOGY and publishes SEXUAL ETIQUETTE 101, THE QUEST FOR EXCELLENCE, and DOCTOR, AM I A VIRGIN AGAIN?
